The white dot is us!!

These must truly be the quietest roads in all of France! I kid you not. There is so little traffic on these roads and lanes. Due for the most part to the fact that we have the lowest head count per square kilometre in the country. Coupled with a high proportion of the populas being retired, you have all the ingredients for fewer cars on the road.

Our 3 day tour takes you down some very, very rural lanes. We have created it to enable a person of average fitenss to spend no more than 3 to 4 hours of riding per day at a nice steady (not a tiring) pace. The key here is to mosey along and take in the sights, the peacefulness and yet get that 'feel good' factor that comes with getting from A to B under your own steam. Remember....no other form of transport is more efficient than the bicycle. Fact.

We have programmed each days route into the handle bar mounted Garmin GPS. But....if you think this is too easy then you are welcome to use our maps to get you to your destination. The maps you are given are easy to follow and you are free to deviate from the proposed route. You will see from the maps that there is a huge network of lanes running in the general direction of the days ride and you may want to add a bit more 'adventure' to the day by meandering along your own chosen route.

We try and get you to a point every day where you have something to see/explore once there. But the emphasis is on riding thru some of the calmest and safest roads in Europe.

Minimum of 2 per trip.

Day 1:

We pick you up from the airport, rail station or you make your own way to Puy Robin by car. Relax, take a walk or freshen up prior to a hearty evening meal.

Day 2:

Chez nous to Oradour-Sur-Glane. Using the route I have researched and programmed into the Garmin you have 54 k's to ride. The terrain is undulating and 3-4 hours should see you to your destination. Once here there is plenty to check out. The roads will be very traffic free!!

This is the site of the attrocities carried out by a German army in the 2nd world war once they realised the war was not going as planned. Over 600 women AND children were forced into the church and the church set ablaze. The men were rounded up and machine gunned in several barns. Only 5 survived.

The town has been left as it was as a reminder of that day. The new town has been built within a few hundred meters of this unforgettable place. Two of the survivors are still alive today!

Lunch stop suggestions...........St Pardoux at 24k's or Thouron at 33 k's. At both you will find little eateries a cafe or boulangerie.

Day 3:

After breakfast you head East towards you next destination at Sauviat Sur Vige. I will perhaps pass you on the road today as I move your belongings to your next port of call.

Today you will pass thru some very lovely countryside. It meanders a fiar bit and takes in some pictoresque hamlets and villages. The route is longer than yesterday at 64 k's. A steady pace of 8 miles per hour will mean around 5 hours of riding. 10 miles per hour will get you there in 4 hours.

Lunch stop suggestions: Rilhac Rancon at 31k or St Priest Taurion at 41k.

Day 4:

Today you make your way due north and back to Puy Robin. I measured todays route at 46 k's. A bit up and down but spectacular roads and lanes. To avoid a huge climb I have taken the D914 to Lauriere for just short of 5k's. Not a main road at all but you may see a dozen cars in the 15 or so minutes you are on this road. You are welcome to consult the map and take an alterantive route north.

Lauriere is a good spot to stop for a bite to eat. There are two little places here where you will be able to find snacks.

From Lauriere you have no more than 1.5 hours to base. A pot of tea and a slice of cake will be waiting.

Rest your bones whilst I prepare an ample evening meal followed by desert, cheeses and all washed down with small or copius amounts of wine.

Day 5:

Sadly, we say goodbye. We truly hope that you had a most memorable time.

We are happy to drop you to the airport or railway station should need it. It only remains to thank you for your custom and we hope we might see you again.

See our 3 day 'do nothing' break for those of you who wish to get away from the 'rat race' and simply sit by the pool, take walks or read a good book.

regards

Pascal and Marie
